Rain Garden Contest

2008

Excavation

The 2008 Contest

In the spring of 2008 project leader Nancy Cushing organized a win-a-Rain-Garden contest for the Friends of Yellow Creek.  The goal was to raise community awareness about rain gardens and their many advantages.

In response to articles in local newspapers, homeowners in the watershed completed applications.  A team of experts visited applicants and selected a contest winner, based on site suitability.

Pictured here are photos of site visitation, the rain garden excavation, and the rain garden preparation.  The selection occurred in August, and construction was completed in early November of 2008.
